R&A have allowed Clubs to use digital scoring during Covid-19 relaxed restrictions – here is the statement from R&A:
“….. The principles in the Rules that apply to paper scorecards need to apply equally to digital methods of scoring. These principles include the requirement for each player to have an independent marker who is responsible for his or her scorecard during the round. This is covered in Rule 3.3b, which requires that the player’s score is kept on his or her scorecard by the marker and that after each hole during the round, the marker should confirm with the player the number of stokes on that hole (including strokes made and penalty strokes) and enter that gross score on the scorecard.
Provided the criteria stated in the Rules is met there should be no issue with national organisations accepting digital scores, however it would be advisable to contact the national organisations to check their handicap systems.“
To reduce Covid-19 transmission risk, it is unlikely that Club score entry terminals will be available any time soon and if Gourock Golf Club members would like to play in qualifying competitions, they need to learn how to pay their entry fee, enter competitions and mark another players score digitally.
